Topic Papers - Tips on Choosing the Right Topic PaperWhy should you choose topic papers? After all, the choice of topic paper will be something that has to be made by you and your instructor. It will be one of the first things that students will see when they start studying. They will look for opportunities to solve problems or to understand things in a different way.
Topic papers usually deal with some kind of topic or problem that you have encountered and want to get a clear idea about it. Perhaps you will be speaking at a seminar and your topic is what you want your students to learn. Or you might want to write a paper to make your own thesis on a certain subject. Whatever the reason is, the topic needs to be well chosen. You need to make sure that the topic that you choose is approved by your teacher or professor. The professor's approval can be given if he or she agrees that the topic is appropriate for the course. In most cases, if the professor does not approve of the topic, he or she will not allow you to use it in your assignment. But he or she will give his or her opinion on it, even if he or she does not support the topic. Before choosing the topic, think about what the purpose of the topic is going to be. You must first decide whether it is going to be a part of the assigned reading or an independent study. If it is going to be a part of the assignment, then you have to make sure that the topic is something that your instructor wants to focus on. He or she will usually suggest topics that are more in depth and related to the course work. For example, a professor might suggest the history of science when teaching about evolution. If you want to write an independent study or discussion paper, the topic should be something that is not related to the class. A good example is a careerstudy topic that deals with politics and public policy. Your topic could be about how a given problem that you have been facing was caused by a particular event. You might want to find out if a certain politician was to blame for that thing, and so on. As a rule, you should try to write a whole discussion paper on the topic that you choose. But don't put all of your energy into your topic paper if it doesn't fit your learning style. Stick to the topic of your course for the best results. Think about how to write about your topic. Is it something that can be explained in a single paragraph? Or do you need to have an entire essay? How about a short list of key points and insights in your topic? Finally, choose a topic that you can understand and relate to. Consider how you can make the information easy to grasp.
